The Government of Canada's Emergency Community Support Fund aims to help charities and non-profit organizations adapt and increase frontline services for vulnerable populations during COVID-19. Since the COVID-19 pandemic was declared, community-based charities and non-profit organizations have been working tirelessly to provide emergency support of all kinds—in particular, to individuals and communities experiencing continued or heightened vulnerability. Demand for their services has increased dramatically.
Together, the Canadian Red Cross, Community Foundations of Canada and United Way Centraide Canada are collaborating with the Government of Canada to flow ECSF support to those who need it most right now.
United Way PEI ECSF - Funding Criteria
Who can Apply?
The United Way of PEI will fund organizations that provide direct services to vulnerable populations who are impacted by COVID-19.
Your organization is eligible to receive funding if your organization has a charitable number, or is otherwise a qualified donee, and is providing supports and services to meet immediate community needs related to the COVID-19.
This funding is intended to support frontline community service organizations providing services to support vulnerable Canadians, including low-income seniors, women, children and youth, persons with disabilities, members of the LGBTQ2S+ community, refugees, Indigenous peoples, members of racialized communities, and more.
Funds may be used for immediate needs and priorities related to the impact of COVID-19. This includes, but is not limited to, services such as:

* Please note: We have suspended the application process for the Atlantic Compassion Fund as of May 28th, 2020. We encourage all charities seeking COVID-19 response funding to apply for the Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF) above.
The United Way of PEI’s Atlantic Compassion Fund continues to accept applications from registered charities across PEI. Eligible organizations can apply for funding to address the needs of vulnerable populations who have increased risk and barriers due to the current public health measures in place to reduce the spread and impact of COVID-19.
Thanks to the support of the Province of PEI, private sector and individual donations, the Compassion Fund is currently supporting 21 organizations across PEI and continues to review new applications on a regular basis.
These funds will be available to registered charities serving marginalized community members across PEI to address immediate needs unavailable through other means.
Eligible expenses for the fund could include:
Delivery costs, where other community transportation options are not available
Adequate supply of medication or essential needs.
Funds for mental health support or wellness checks, not covered by regular operations
Access to cleaning supplies, personal items, protective equipment/clothing
Access to food for specific dietary requirements not able to be accessed through food bank network.
Other immediate needs or supports will be considered if they meet the following criteria:
Charitable organization serving those most marginalized by poverty and COVID-19
Is focused on a new or greater need as a result of COVID-19
Meets an immediate need
Fills a gap
ALL PEI registered charities or other qualified donees are eligible to apply - not just existing funded partners of the United Way of PEI.
Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis throughout the duration of this public health crisis and will be reviewed as they are received. Depending on the number of applications received, United Way PEI may not be able to provide the full dollar amount requested or be able to fund every application.
