Position Type: Full Time Permanent

Salary: $60,000 - $68,000 and benefit package (depending on experience)

Work location: UWPEI office, Charlottetown-PE

The United Way of Prince Edward Island has been changing lives and strengthening communities locally for nearly 60 years.  Last year, United Way of PEI assisted over 25,000 Islanders with a focus on breaking the cycle of poverty by ensuring kids are prepared for school, youth develop the skills needed to feel confident and secure, and Islanders of all ages have access to supports and programs that improve their economic status and overall mental health. We do this by mobilizing our community, forging partnerships, and investing in programs best suited to meet PEI’s most critical needs.  

Overview of the Position

We are looking to hire an enthusiastic Director of Development to secure financial support for our organization. The Director of Development will set and achieve fundraising goals, maintain knowledge of fundraisers' interests, and cultivate relationships with fellow employees and volunteers. You will be an active participant in fundraising activities, including workplace giving, corporate relationships, individual giving, sponsorship, and planned giving events.The successful applicant will build lasting relationships with donors and keep them informed on how their donations are impacting residents of PEI.  Preferred candidates will be self-motived, deadline-driven multitaskers who thrive in securing support for those on Prince Edward Island. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and execute annual fundraising plan to meet fundraising goals.
  • Manage current portfolio of donors while creating meaningful giving opportunities, cases for support, and communications/stewardship materials intended to attract significant, long-term corporate and major donor partnerships.
  • Provide leadership, support and motivation to development team.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on progress towards fundraising goals.
  • Ensure data integrity across membership and donor lists, named funds, andcampaigns.
  • Use donor data to generate insight, and technology to engage donors and share content across many digital platforms.
  • Work closely with CEO to respond to policy issues and/or community issues.
  • Collaborate with development staff in United Ways across Atlantic Canada and across Canada to ensure consistent and high-quality donor experience.
  • Work with the Chief Executive Officer to prepare and manage annualbudgets.

The Ideal Candidate Withholds:

  • Strong interpersonal and writing skills.
  • Familiarity in identification and utilization of fundraising analytics.
  • Proven knowledge and experience in fund raising strategies and implementation.
  • The skills to work with and motivate staff, board members and other team members.
  • Has the desire to get out of the office and build external relationships.
  • A goal driven attitude to initiate donor visits and fundraising calls.
  • Excellent organizational skills and exhibits “follow through” on tasks and goals.
  • A positive attitude, shows concern for people and community, demonstrates presence, self-confidence, quick decision-making capabilities with a strength in listening.
  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • 4-6 years minimum development experience in either the public or private sector.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday 8am-4pm (35 hrs/wk) however, there may be flexibility in schedule.

Travel:

Travel is primarily local during the business day. Some out-of-province and overnight travel may be necessary on occasion (during non-COVID-19 times).
