The United Way of Prince Edward Island and the Community Foundation of
PEI (CFPEI) will be providing $585,000 in combined funding to support PEI charities
responding to COVID-19 as part of a new partnership with Community
Foundations of Canada, United
Way Centraide Canada and the Canadian
Red Cross, funded through the Government of Canada’s $350M Emergency Community
Support Fund (ECSF).
This vast national effort aims to support vulnerable
populations disproportionately affected by COVID-19. Vulnerable groups are less
prepared to deal with the health, social and economic impacts of COVID-19,
resulting in greater need for critical community-based supports. The ECSF will help registered charities
provide essential supports during this pandemic.
Effective May 19, United Way of PEI and the Community Foundation of PEI
will be accepting applications for funding from qualified donees. Grants will
support services that address a social inclusion or well-being need of a
vulnerable population related to the pandemic. Grants can be used for staffing,
materials and supplies, resource needs or other requirements to address
immediate and emergency needs of Islanders related to COVID-19.
Funding will be
issued on an ongoing basis through July 2020 as
funds allow. Charities and community organizations are invited to visit United
Way (https://www.peiunitedway.com/) or Community Foundation (https://cfpei.ca/) websites for
eligibility and application details. United Way of PEI, will be investing $325,000, with a focus on
projects of $25,000 and above. The
Community Foundation of PEI will be awarding $260,000 and will receive
applications for grants of up to $25,000.

The Emergency Community Support Fund was initially announced on April 21, 2020 by the Prime Minister of Canada. It is part of a
broad series of emergency response measures by the Government of Canada.
